Autumn

This year for the first time I realize I am looing forward to the cooler seasons. I like the idea that it will get dark early and I will curl up toasty and warm in my favorite chair. I like that closed in, snug feeling. I like no grass to cut and no guilt that I'm not out pulling weeds. I love Thanksgiving and Christmas. I love Halloween too - but no kids out here in the wilderness. The last 2 years I didn't decorate for Christmas. Will this year be different?

Positive Thinking and Weight Loss?

"The study participants were randomly divided into two groups. The control group listened to a popular weight loss podcast currently on the market, and the study group listened to a weight loss podcast designed by the researchers and based on social cognitive theory, the belief that some learning can come from emulating the behavior of those we want to emulate. The control podcast focused on making cognitive changes to combat overeating and included ideas such as positive thinking to alter one's body image." LA Times - read the whole article above.

Back on Track!

When I returned from OBX I weighed in a whole 7 lbs heavier! Now almost a week later I have lost 5 lbs. Two more to go to break even.

Was it the orange sherbert (I loved every bite - 2 scoops and I chose it over the banana split I saw on the menu) or was it the pancakes my son-in-law made? Next year we are planning on going for a whole week so I need to stay on track and lose at least a pound a week. So now you know I need to lose at least 50 lbs ... more like 70! When I'm done I expect to float like a butterfly!

If one blogs in the woods ...

If one blogs in a forest - and nobody listens - is it still a blog? I think so. I'm enjoying my online journal - another continuing conversation with myself.

Why?

How can I be living in a country where Health Care is not a right? How can sick people have their insurance cancelled? How can people die because they don't have insurance? Why am I living in a country that spends the most money on health care with the worse results for a developed country? Why is our infant mortality rate so high? Why aren't we smarter about this? Why don't we care?

Confessions of a Mad Dieter

I've been dieting since June and I've lost 28 pounds. Oddly this doesn't equate to a smaller size clothes - just loose clothes. My fingers and feet are very skinny as my rings and shoes slip around.

I've had time to think about my pre-diet mind set. I watched a show called "Dance Your Ass Off". The people were really fat. Then they weighed in and some weighed less than me. This followed a conversation with my Doctor about how so many of my problems would be solved with a little weight loss. So I started counting calories and realized that even though I didn't eat a whole lot - it was high in calories. (This is even after the fact that I haven't had sugar for 2 years!) I found satisfying subsitutes and its been nothing but weight loss since.

Back to my pre-diet mind set. I have a lot of mirrors in my house. I love them - they open up a room and magnify the outside view. I became a vampire. I saw everything from an angle - never once did I appear in the mirror! When I held up the clothes I wore, they looked huge, and I thought "these clothes look so big" but when I put them on - magically they morphed into my self-image.

I'm still not in the mirror but who knows . . . soon?

My Latest Favorite from HBO's True Blood!

Wrong About Everything - As Usual

My favorite "Wrong About Everything" Quote:

"And now the liberals want to stop President Reagan from selling chemical warfare agents and military equipment to Saddam Hussein, and why? Because Saddam 'allegedly' gassed a few Kurds in his own country. Mark my words. All of this talk of Saddam Hussein being a 'war criminal' or 'committing crimes against humanity' is the same old thing. Liberal Hate Speech! And speaking of poison gas ... I say we round up all the drug addicts and gas them"
. . . Rush Limbaugh, November 3, 1988
